The most common cause is ‘glassing’ or ‘treasures’ of a diamond embankment, which occurs as a result of overheating (no cooling) or working at too low speeds. The metal binder then covers the sharp edges of diamonds. The problem can sometimes be solved by "sharpening" the opening, making several holes in the abrasive material, e.g. in a sandstone block.
