What is the "glassing" of a diamond segment?

Glassing (or dulling) is a phenomenon in which the binder of the metal segment smoothes and covers the sharp edges of diamond grains. The tool stops effectively cutting and starts sliding, generating a lot of heat. This is often caused by too hard material or poor speed.
